7 Reasons Elearning is More Critical for Airlines in 2017

The airline industry is growing faster than ever, with more budget airlines entering the market and changes in regulation. These include Norwegian Airlines the low cost Scandinavian company recently announcing cheaper flights from London to New York, and, Jet2 the Leeds based airline operator also providing flights to New York.

So why is the timing right for elearning in the airline industry?

1. Increased demand

More people are travelling by air than ever before, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), there will be an additional 2 million new aviation personnel needed by 2035. Furthermore Boeing have recently commented about this increase in demand we are expecting.

2. More regulation

With more requirements for re-certification and compliance, training is fundamental for airlines.

3. Additional costs

With the result of more training needed, airlines are becoming more creative in approach, using elearning to add to their blended training programmes. According to the British Airline Pilot’s Association, training commercial pilots has increased to between 25,000-35,000 GBP per pilot.

4. Reporting

With the increased requirements for compliance, leaders need real time reporting and dashboards to track compliance or teams and departments. Using a learning environment can bridge this gap.

5. Re-certification and audits

For audit purposes, airlines need better workflows and e-signature capability to ensure that they have the correct procedure for reporting for audit purpose.

6. Talent Management

With a growing sector, airlines need to look at how they develop and retain key employees. Many are using talent management programmes and scholarships to do this, for example, JetBlue airlines have recently launched their scholars programme.

7. Global Footprint

Many airlines are expanding abroad, given this trend, it is much more cost effective to provide virtual classroom training and elearning to deliver knowledge to a global workforce at the point of need.
